Ambergris is a naturally occurring substance, secreted by sperm whales, and it is that substance that was historically used in making fragrance. Today, for environmentally responsible reasons, almost all fragrances are made with synthetic ambergris, and for those reasons, Demeter uses synthetic materials to make our version of Amber.
