First Response – Boston

75% of Sales Donated to the
Boston First Responders Fund

Americans are a wonderfully diverse people, but generally speaking, we do not agree on all that much. But we certainly agree that we take care of our own, so no one was surprised to hear about the Boston First Responders Fund, which has been set up to help the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing. The Fund will be administered through the Boston Firefighter’s Credit Union, which is the host site for taking online donations.

At Demeter, we want to do our part, too.  So we created First Response - Boston, a combination of spices and flowers, overlaid with white smoke and rubber.

The smoke and rubber elements are to honor Boston's Firefighters, who with disregard for their own safety, constantly put themselves in harm's way for the benefit of others.  We should never forget the risks they take, and the bravery they demonstrate, each and every day.

A Brief Note to Sam and Terry!
by L.A.R.W. from Memphis, Tennessee on 11/2/2013
If the Two of you read the description, it says; "75% of SALES (not PROFITS) Donated to the Boston First Responders Fund"! There is a BIG difference between SALES and PROFITS! SALES is; "the Act of Selling a Product or Service in return for Money or other Compensation." PROFIT is; "The Return received on a Business Undertaking AFTER all Operating Expenses have been Met." That being said, Demeter could very well be losing Money, on this Scent, in order to be able to give 75% of the SALES to the Boston First Responders! They might not be making any PROFIT, what-so-ever, on this Scent. So instead of the Two of you sitting on your Toches', all day long, complaining, about Demeter (probably the only Company, at all) Donating 75% of the SALES (not PROFITS) to the Boston First Responders Fund, why don't you do something worthwhile, like Donate your Time, or even your Paycheck to a Worthy Cause? People, like you, drive me totally Meshuge! Always complaining about one thing, or another! :o/ Sheesh!..... On another note...This Fragrance is very nice! It's Rich and Spicey, with a slight Smokey smell and a li'l Rubber thrown in...Maybe even a hint of Black Pepper, too! Quite Tantalizing! :o} Also, I would like commend Demeter, on a Job well done and on the 75% Donation of the SALES of this Fragrance to the Boston First Responders Fund! Thank you, Demeter! :o}
Overall: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Totally Unbelievable@Sam & Terry!!!
by Kat, the Photographer!! :o} from Happy Valley, Oregon on 7/12/2013
I haven't tried this Fragrance yet, but I intend too! Demeter is Donating 75% of the Money they make, from the sale of this Fragrance, to the First Responders, of the Boston Marathon Bombing! Tell me how is that offensive? What other Company is giving 75% of the Money they make to the First Responders? None, that I know of...If you've heard of any other Company that is Donating 75% of their Profits to this Cause, or any other Cause, for that matter, please let me know! Most Companies usually only donate about, at most, 25%, which is nothing, in comparison to what Demeter is Donating! The 25% that Demeter is keeping is probably being used to make more "First Response" so they can continue to sell it, so they can continue to Donate to a worthy Cause! If anyone should be ashamed it should be the two of you, for putting down a Company that is doing something good! Hmmm, Instead of gripping, maybe you should donate 75% of your Earnings to the First Responders...How does that sounds???
Overall: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Incredible
by Hil from Uniontown, PA on 7/5/2013
Wow! At first smell, it's spicy and rich. Followed up shortly by an incredible smokey smell (I don't smell much rubber, more wood smoke). I have grown up in and around the fire station (proud daughter of a 28 year veteran of the local department) and this fragrance smells like home! This smell is my dad... and everyone else that has sniffed it has been blown away by it's accuracies. I cannot wait to buy more - great cause, great smell.
Overall: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

You Want To Know What's Really Shameful?
by A Real Activist from Anywhere You're Not, USA on 7/5/2013
Being the kind of people who knock the humanitarian efforts of others while making no effort to help those in need yourselves. Terry and Sam,go try and make the world a better place instead of putting down a company that by donating 75% of the profits from this aren't even going to recoup expenses and threatening to not place your once a year order that isn't keeping them afloat anyway; while you're at it, enjoy the static you'll receive from self righteous people like you who live by their perceptions and opinions.
Overall: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

How exactly is this profiting off of tragedy?
by A.C. from Denham Springs, LA on 6/14/2013
I'm assuming the past couple of reviewers haven't even tried First Response. I haven't either, but I just had to say something. How on earth is this profiting off of tragedy? If you'll look at the name of the perfume, it is called FIRST RESPONSE. Now also look at the description. Clearly, this fragrance was created to honor not just Boston's firefighters, but all of the first responder heroes across the nation. I don't see what's wrong with that. Also, 75% of proceeds is a bigger donation than most people realize. Did you ever think that the 25% kept from this just goes into making more of this perfume? Profiting off of the tragedy would mean not donating any of it. And tell me, what other fragrance company is even bothering to do something like this? I don't see any others stepping up. I give First Response 5 stars just for its cause alone.
Overall: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
