Sweet Pea

The Scent: Sweet Pea is a very popular garden bloom that has been confounding perfumers forever. It produces a stress hormone that ruins its beautiful scent when picked. Amazing! It's really telling humans look and smell, but don't touch. We use a process to synthesize the scent from natural materials so we can get an exquisite scent without defying Mother Nature.

The Story: Other fun facts: the sweet pea is also popularly known as the "Queen of Annuals," and is the emblematic flower of the month of April. And if you remember your Biology 101, much early work in genetics was done at Cambridge University using the Sweet Pea. Much of what we know about plant hybrids derives from this work in the 19th and early 20th century.
